Bharatiya Hindu Temple (map)
FIA is proud to announce that it is organizing a free Education event "Programming for Kids" at Bharatiya Hindu Temple in Powell, OH.

Mission:
Today, computer awareness is taken for granted in every walk of our lives no matter what the profession we choose.  While there is a lot of focus on Analytical and Reading skills for kids below 14, we think "Computer Programming" can accelerate their learning abilities.

"Computer Programming is a powerful tool for children to 'learn learning.' ... Children who engage in programming transfer that kind of learning to other things."
                                         - Nicholas Negroponte
One Laptop Per Child Project, January 2008
Our Mission is to provide Computer Education to kids early in their life so they could put their analytical skills to test and have fun at the same time.

Our Plan:
Use "Hello World! Computer Programming for Kids and other Beginners" by Warren Sande and Carter Sande as the basis to teach computer programming.  Carter is an elementary school student who loves computers, playing piano, jumping on the trampoline, and bike riding to name a few and is often referred to as "Tech Support" at school.
What better syllabus to use than the one that has been co-authored by a kid for the kids!  This book is kid tested and parent approved.

Cost:
$30 per kid.

Our Recommendation for Minimum age:
9+ Years

What do the kids need:
  • Book (Provided at $30)
  • Personal Laptop with Windows installed
  • Basic knowledge of how to use the computer (starting different programs, saving files, and so on..)
  • Permission from the Parent to install Python and its related tools on the Laptop provided to the kid.
  • Desire to learn and try new things, even if they don't always work the first time.
What the kids don't need:
  • There is no need to buy any software.  Everything the student needs is going to be provided in the 1st session.
  • There is no knowledge of Computer Programming needed.  This is for absolute beginners.
